Info on Sacre-Coeur

Parvis du Sacré Coeur, 75018 Paris
Subway Anvers
The building of the Sacré Coeur Basilica was decided by a vote of the Assemblée Nationale in 1873 as a sign of national reconciliation after the Commune de Paris uprising of 1870. It was funded by national subscription. Camped on top of Montmartre, where the uprising started, the basilica commands a stunning view of Paris. It was designed by Paul Abadie, themost conventionalarchitect of his generation, in a style that could be described as kitsch. Work lasted from 1875
to 1914 and the edifice was consecrated after World War I.

The church is open daily from 6am to 11pm. The dome and the crypt are accessible daily from 9am to 6pm.
